Typically grown as annuals, the tender perennials (Zones 10-11) in the Regatta Mixture Lobelia Seeds offer spring and summer interest. Blooming up to 4 weeks earlier than other trailing varieties, this mix flowers profusely in shades of white, pink, and blue. Borne in large, loose clusters, the intensely colored flowers attract butterflies.

Regatta Mixture contains Lobelia erinus varieties also known as trailing lobelia, a highly popular traditional garden favorite. These lobelias have a trailing, mounding habit of narrow green leaves and a vigorous growth habit. They are shown to best effect grouped or massed, as it forms a low cushy mat of intensely colored blooms. Trailing lobelias are perfect for rock gardens, beds, border edges, and containers; but their cascading colors make truly exceptional hanging baskets.

Lobelias prefer full sun to dappled shade and organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. They perform best in cool spring weather. The plants may decline in hot and humid summer conditions; so, under those conditions, more shade, consistent water, and a 2-inch layer of mulch is recommended. They are deer tolerant and virtually pest and disease free.

Start lobelia seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before last frost and transplant seedlings to the garden after all threat of frost has passed and nighttime temperatures remain consistently above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
